Pods for Nespresso®
Nespresso® Pods
The idea to make a perfect cup of coffee from a small capsule comes from Nestlé, which is behind the brand Nespresso®. Nestlé is one of the world's largest and oldest food producers.
In the beginning it was only possible to make coffee with the original Nespresso® pods in the Nespresso® machine. Today there are plenty of cheaper alternatives - compatible pods.
With pods for Nespresso® you can make a delicious cup of coffee very quickly. With your machine you can make a ristretto, espresso, lungo or americano. If your machine has a milk frother you can also make all kinds of coffee drinks with milk, such as Cappuccino and Caffe Latte.
What variants are available for Nespresso®?
There is a huge selection of pods for Nespresso®. For the Nespresso® machine you can get both Nespressos® own coffee pods and compatible pods from many other coffee manufacturers. There is a huge selection from which to find the capsule that best suits you.
The coffees inside the pods come from many different parts of the world and have their very own unique taste. The unique taste of every coffee begins to form from the moment the coffee bean ripens inside the coffee berry.
Coffee beans are separated from the berry and transported to coffee producers, who then develop the beans’ taste by roasting them in different ways.
If you are looking for a coffee with an intense and sweet taste, choose dark-roasted Arabica beans. If, on the other hand, you prefer coffee with a bit of acidity, a blend of lightly roasted Arabica and Robusta beans is the right choice for you.
If you want a coffee with something a little extra, you can get coffee pods with added flavours. These can be, for example, coffee with caramel, chocolate or vanilla.
Nespresso® compatible pods
There are many benefits to buying Nespresso® compatible pods. First of all, you will usually be able to save a lot of money because they are cheaper than the original pods. You also have the opportunity to try many different flavours from different coffee producers and find your own favourite.
The environmentally conscious coffee lover can use compatible compostable pods instead of the polluting aluminium pods. Some compatible pods are also organic and carry the fair trade and rainforest alliance label.
The compatible pods for Nespresso® have the same shape as the originals and so fit in all machines. However, some will find that they occasionally have to press a little harder when putting compatible pods in the machine - especially if the pods are made of plastic or a compostable material.
Nespresso® warranty
You do not have to worry about losing the warranty on your machine through using compatible pods for Nespresso®. We rarely hear of machines breaking down because of compatible pods - even when we sell more than 100,000 compatible pods a week.
Usually a defective machine is due to irregular cleaning, lack of descaling or a defect in its manufacture.
Depending on when you purchased your machine, a 2-5 year warranty will always be included. The warranty only covers manufacturing defects. For this reason it is important to make sure the machine does not break due to lack of cleaning or descaling.
We recommend that you read the operating instructions on your machine carefully.
Nespresso® descaling
For good maintenance of your capsule machine it is important that you descale it regularly. We recommend that you descale your machine once a month, depending on where you live. The amount of limescale in the water differs from area to area. Some will have a lot of limescale in the tap water, whereas others will have very little.
Signs that your machine needs to be descaled may be the lengthening of brewing time, reduction of pressure in the machine or dripping at the machine’s outlet.
By descaling your machine you extend the life of the machine. You also ensure the coffee is always made to the correct temperature and volume in your cup. In addition, you also ensure a better water flow in the machine, reduce machine noise and prevent malfunctions.
The best way to descale your Nespresso® machine is by using a descaling tablet (either an original from Nespresso® or a cheaper alternative). Dissolve the tablet in fresh water in the filled water tank, insert the water tank in the machine and start the descaling program.
Using ordinary descaler or vinegar in your machine is not recommended in the operating instructions. Don’t do it.
Because almost all the heaters in your machine are made of aluminium, they will be etched by vinegar. Vinegar is also insufficiently effective against limescale.
Maintenance of Nespresso® machine
In addition to regular descaling, emptying the water tank when the machine is not in use is also recommended. The water tank must also be cleaned regularly to ensure only fresh water is used to make coffee.
You can also use the cleaning needle to remove impurities. This is automatically included with the purchase of a machine. Using the cleaning needle regularly will ensure the machine is kept clean.
